The post extraction healing is very comfortable & recovery usually takes a few days. The following instructions can help minimize discomfort, reduce the risk of infection, and speed-up recovery:

    • Take painkillers as prescribed.
    • Apply an ice pack to the affected area immediately after the procedure to keep down swelling. Apply ice for 10 minutes at a time 4-5 times on the first day only.
    • Relax for at least 24 hours after the extraction. Limit activity for the next day or two.
    • Avoid rinsing or spitting forcefully for 24 hours after the extraction to avoid dislodging the clot that forms in the socket.
    • After 24 hours, rinse with your mouth with a solution made of 1/2 teaspoon salt and glass of warm water.
    • Do not drink from a straw for the first 24 hours.
    • Do not smoke, which can inhibit healing.
    • Eat soft foods, such as soup, pudding, yogurt, the day after the extraction. Gradually add solid foods to your diet as the extraction site heals.
    • When lying down, prop your head with pillows. Lying flat may prolong bleeding.
    • Continue to brush and floss your teeth, and brush your tongue, but be sure to avoid the extraction site. Doing so will help prevent infection.
    • It is normal to feel some pain after the anesthesia wears off. For 24 hours after having a tooth pulled, you should also expect some swelling and residual bleeding. However, if either bleeding or pain is still severe more than four hours after your tooth is pulled, you should call us.

    Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth usually erupt when you are in your late teens or early twenties and are usually the last teeth to come through the gums. Often the space for these teeth to grow into is limited and the teeth can become “impacted” and can cause problems that require their removal. Removing your wisdom teeth is a very common procedure and are done in our clinic by either of our Expert Oral &Maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Prasad GSV.

    Before Surgery

You’ll meet with our doctors to talk about the process. At this appointment, make sure you:
    • Talk about any health problems you have.
    • List any drugs you take on a regular basis.
    • Plan time off from work or school to have your surgery and rest afterward at home. Set up child care, pet care, or a ride home, if needed.

    During Surgery

Your surgery should take 45 minutes or less.
You’ll get Local anesthesia to numb that side of the jaw.
Your doctor may have to cut your gums or bone to get the teeth out. If so, he'll stitch the wounds shut so they heal quickly.
These stitches would have to be removed after 7 days.

    After Surgery

Everyone responds differently to anesthesia. If you had a local anesthetic and feel alert, you might be able to drive home to begin your recovery. You might even be able to go back to work or do your normal activities.
Most people have little to no pain after surgery. You'll likely have swelling and mild discomfort for 3 or so days. Your mouth may need a few weeks to completely heal. As long as you follow all post extraction instructions you should be back to normalcy in a jiffy!
